It's time to Wine Down with Franklin Vines!

I first met Stephanie at our 2019 Sugar & Spice Brunch event, just a few weeks before the world shut down. I was immediately drawn to her kind genuine spirit. When Stephanie told me that she was a wine connoisseur, I just knew that we had to do something together. Stephanie is not of Caribbean descent and hasn't visited the Caribbean (yet), but loves the culture. That's the beauty of the I Love Being Caribbean movement, we welcome and love people from all backgrounds #outofmanyone Stephanie is a beautiful representation of the movement. It's time for you to meet Stephanie Franklin, curator and CEO of Franklin Vines:

Stephanie, tell us a little bit about your background:

I’m from Lake Charles, LA. I was raised in Houston, TX. I also lived in New York for a few years, where I pursued acting and hair modeling. I love to workout and I’m a jazz and wine lover.

How did you get started in the business of wine?

I wanted to pursue something that I was passionate about and wine was the answer. I then started to research careers in wine.

That's awesome. We hear a lot of talk about taking what we're passionate about and making it a living. Most talk about it, but you're doing it!

I love food and wine, so I thought why not make a career out it. I wanted to do what I truly loved. I’ve always been a wine consumer and naturally curious about wine. I decided to turn my dreams into reality in 2018.

That's amazing! So how exactly does Franklin Vines work?

As of now, I offer services such as wine tastings, wine education and hosting dinners. My goal is to become a winemaker and start a small vineyard. I love providing Wine 101 with people. My favorite aspect of my business is that I can interact with people, create new friendships and expose something different to people.

What type of education or training did you invest in for your business?

I received formal training from The Texas School of Wine where I earned 2 certifications in Wines and Spirits Education Trust certifications (WSET). I am currently studying for WSET 3. I also hold an Associate Degree. I’m currently enrolled in dual degree program where I will complete my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Horticulture and Enology.

Horticulture and Enology? Can you break that down for us?

Horticulture and Enology is the study of grapes and wine for grape growing and wine production.

Wow, that's a lot of training! Based on your experience in business, what advice do you have for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Start small, think big! You’re not going to have everything figured out. Just start!

Amen to that. Speaking of thinking big, where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I will be an established winemaker, grape grower and my wines will be accessible all over the world for everyone to enjoy!

How can potential customers contact you?

We are so excited and honored to have Stephanie and Franklin Vines as a corporate member of the I Love Being Caribbean family. We can't wait to celebrate (and toast) all future successes with her. If you love wine, definitely link up with Franklin Vines!
